PJS and PHILJEC host a Farewell Reception in honor of Ambassador ENDO Kazuya and Madame ENDO Akiko

On August 19, 2026, the Philippines-Japan Society (PJS) and the Philippines-Japan Economic Cooperation Committee (PHILJEC) co-hosted a Farewell Reception in honor of Ambassador ENDO Kazuya and Madame ENDO Akiko, who will be ending their tour of duty after less than 3 years.

PHILJEC Secretary-General Mr. Philip B. Sanvictores guided the flow of the evening as emcee during the program proper.

It opened with welcoming remarks by PJS President Francis C. Laurel. In his speech, he emphasized that this was not a farewell but rather “until we meet again,” noting that the couple had been more than good friends – they had become special friends to the people within the organization.

This was followed by remarks from PHILJEC Co-chairman Ferdinand A. Ferrer, who also serves as President of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI). He highlighted that Ambassador Endo’s impact reached communities across the Philippines, touching many lives in just two and a half years. Like Mr. Laurel, he described the Ambassador as both a friend and a champion for Filipinos, and expressed hope for continued collaboration with him in his new role in Japan.

In his reply, Ambassador Endo reflected on his more than two years in the Philippines, expressing gratitude for the friendships formed and reaffirming the shared vision of prosperity that continues to unite Japan and the Philippines. He delivered his own report on the accomplishments achieved during his tour, highlighting milestones in security, economic cooperation, and infrastructure development. He also acknowledged the support of Madame Endo, noting that her warmth and talents enabled him to connect deeply with the Filipino people. Ambassador Endo concluded by thanking PHILJEC and PJS for their hospitality and, with heartfelt words, bid farewell:

“Paalam at Mabuhay kayong lahat. Taos puso akong nagpapasalamat sa inyong pagkakaibigan. Habambuhay kong dadalhin sa puso ang inyong mga alaala. Mabuhay ang ating pagkakaibigan. Maraming-maraming salamat po.”

PHILJEC Chairman Alfred V. Ty then offered a toast, thanking guests for their presence despite the weather and honoring Ambassador and Madame Endo. He highlighted their contributions in strengthening Philippines-Japan relations across business, culture, tourism, security, and infrastructure, while also building genuine friendships with the Filipino community. Chairman Ty praised Madame Endo’s gracious presence and support, noting that together they made a remarkable team. He concluded by inviting everyone to raise their glasses in celebration of their friendship and service.

After dinner, PHILJEC Trustee Atty. Carrie Bee C. Hao assumed emcee duties, guiding the post-dinner program with warmth and grace.

Mr. Ty then presented a gift to Ambassador and Madame Endo on behalf of PHILJEC and PJS.

The evening concluded with live karaoke, ending the occasion on a light and joyful note.
