Japanese firms seeking Filipino business partners

TWENTY-SIX Japanese businessmen representing small- and medium-scale business enterprises in various industries will participate in a business matching program of the Philippines Japan Economic Cooperation Committee (PHILJEC) and OISCA, a Japanese NGO for international cooperation, on December 6-7 at the New World Hotel in Makati City.
Aniceto G. Saludo Jr., PHILJEC chairman, said the two-day event revolves on the theme “economic prosperity and growth through business matching” and is highlighted by one-on-one meetings of Japanese businessmen with potential Filipino partners.
Saludo said there are seven areas of cooperation open to Filipino entrepreneurs: partnership, joint venture, dealer, distributor, financing, marketing and promotion, consultancy/research and technology transfer.
Yasuaki Nagaishi, OISCA-International secretary general, said there are 11 industry-business categories in the business matching forum: information technology, education, manufacturing, food, agriculture, human resource, trading, energy, services, construction, and real estate.
Opening ceremonies start at 9 a.m. on December 6 with welcome remarks by Saludo, followed by a special address to participants led by Minister Makoto Iyori, Japan Minister of Economic Affairs, and Alex Buenaventura, president, Land Bank of the Philippines.
OISCA is a Japanese NGO established in 1961 with headquarters in Tokyo. It has been carrying out various projects and activities in environment conservation, capacity building, agricultural development, and Children’s Forest Program in 36 countries and areas mostly in the Asia Pacific Region.
PHILJEC, established in 1974 and comprising Philippine and Japanese listed companies, has been promoting economic exchanges between the Philippines and Japan.

Registration started early for this year’s NCF & PIJLC Open House as the schools opened its doors to over 200 registered guests eager to participate and observe in various language and cultural programs lined-up for the day.
From the morning, guests were able to experience how to wear a traditional Japanese summer kimono called Yukata, and try their hand at Furoshiki and Origami (cloth wrapping and paper folding, respectively). NCF teachers also gave beginner lessons on Nihongo with 15-20 people per session for the entire day of the open house. Companies such as FactSet Philippines and John Clements – Professional Staffers also set up their recruitment booths during the event.
The NCF & PIJLC Open House continues to attract a growing number of visitors especially for some of its much-awaited contests: Karaoke, Cosplay, Kana Writing, and Drawing contest. This year, there were 9 participants in the Karaoke contest all performing popular J-pop hits and Ms. Melody Dela Rosa bagged the top prize for her rendition of “Kaze no Uta” by Minako Honda.
Participants for the Cosplay contest also showed up wearing their best costumes but it was Ms. Patricia Santos who received the most votes and won the first prize as the character Mistuha from the anime movie “Kimi no Nawa”. Meanwhile, Ms. Mary Grace Piojo was chosen as the top winner for this year’s Drawing contest and Mr. Sunny Mamaril, Jr. was awarded first place for Kana Writing contest. Towards the end of the afternoon, the school also held a raffle draw for the visitors.
