Membership
Wives of the members of the Philippines-Japan Society (both Filipinos and Japanese) who have indicated interest in the Association’s goal of promoting goodwill, friendship and understanding between the peoples of the Philippines and Japan in particular, and among other nations in general, are invited to join the Philippines-Japan Ladies Association (PJLA). Likewise, wives of members and lady members of organizations affiliated to the Philippines-Japan Society who have expressed interest in such promotion are invited.
The wife of the Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines and the wife of the Minister of the Embassy of Japan are always invited to be the honorary members and have always accepted the invitation and have participated in the various activities of the Association.
Activities
The PJLA Chorale Group – was organized in 1978 as a channel for cultural exchange particularly in the field of music. The members meet every Fridays of the month to study and practice Philippine and Japanese songs; although they also study some songs in other languages. It is believed that the more lasting friendships and pleasant memories are developed during these weekly meetings of the ladies.
The PJLA Choral Group always contributes a musical number to the Philippines-Japan Society sponsored Philippines-Japan Friendship Celebration Awards Night which is celebrated every 4th Friday of February yearly.
PJLA Medal of Merit Awards – The various friendship and alumni organizations under the aegis of the PJLA sponsors the PJLA Medal of Merit Award. This award is conferred to Filipino and Japanese nationals who have made outstanding, exemplary and significant contribution to the promotion of friendship, understanding and cooperation between the Philippines and Japan.
Giving of awards and commendations to outstanding individuals who have helped motivate others enhance their skills and continue to strive to become leaders in promoting and strengthening the bond between the two peoples of Philippines and Japan and other nations.
Cooking Demonstrations – Filipino members demonstrate Philippine recipes and the Japanese members demonstrate Japanese cooking: other demonstrations on Italian cooking, cake baking and pizza making are also done. These are usually the best attended and participated activity.
Skincare and Make-up Demonstration – this demonstration is of interest to most members on proper care of skin and correct color combination of make-up and types of cosmetics that suits their lifestyle.
White Elephant and Family Bingo fund drive – It is the traditional activity of the association to raise funds for the less fortunate, education, outreach and protection of street children.
Flower Arrangement Demonstration – members enjoy learning different procedures on traditional Japanese and other free-style flower arrangements.
Visits to historical places, museums, and factories of interest lectures, demonstrations and workshops on Philippine and Japanese arts and crafts, etc. are organized periodically to give members the opportunity to share the wealth and enjoyment of each other’s culture – thus gaining an insight and appreciation of one another’s traditions and customs thereby promoting better understanding between the two peoples.
PJLA continuously supporting organizations working to promote the welfare of street children. Supports organization enable the street children to have direct access to basic social services such as counseling, alternative education, health education and care, recreation, referral services for legal assistance as well as for temporary shelters as a foundation for a long term positive impact on their well-being.
